The AKU Society is a patient organisation founded in 2003 in Liverpool, UK. They support patients diagnosed with a rare genetic disease, Alkaptonuria (AKU). The society wanted a brochure and exhibition stands to promote awareness of the disease and to use at various conferences around the world.
Our approach to the brochure was to use nature as a theme. We used this abstract approach because trying to get a message across visually about a disease can be quite sensitive. It would be less hard hitting and would potentially become an interesting talking point if anyone asked about it. We applied this idea to the exhibition stands and now the charity has a unique colourful image which will help it raise awareness.
